

On January 17, 2008, Jennifer V. Ramos was unanimously sworn into office as the newest
District 3 City Council representative and made history in San Antonio by having
a majority women Council. She served a total of sixteen months completing then Councilman
and current State Representative Roland Gutierrez.
In May of 2009 she ran unopposed and was elected to serve her first full term as
the District 3 Councilwoman.
Ramos was born and raised on the Southside of San Antonio,
lives and works in the South Presa community and is a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s
Catholic Church.
Ramos began her education at St. Cecilia School and earned her high
school diploma at Incarnate Word High School. She attended San Antonio College for
two years and then transferred to the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW), where
she earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2000.

as an undergraduate at UIW, she volunteered with the Campus Ministry and participated
in various community efforts. She was also involved with other non-
In June of 2004, Ramos was elected to serve on the Alamo Community Colleges Board
of Trustees District 3 position where she earned over 63 percent of the vote. While
serving on the Board she was able to complete her Masters degree from UIW in Organizational
Development in December 2004.
Ramos and her family have been active members of the
Southside business community for more than 33 years. She and her family have owned
and operated El Torero Mexican Restaurant at 3407 S. Presa Street. Ramos has coordinated
and sponsored events to give back to the community, including an annual Thanksgiving
lunch and "Santa is Coming" events. Ramos also volunteers with local organizations
such as Presa Community Center and St. Cecilia’s.
In the first 18 months as Councilwoman, while completing her appointed term in office, she initiated the 1st Annual District 3 Back in Class Bash, a school supply drive and back to school event which benefited over 1000 children in the District 3 area.
Councilwoman Ramos also started the SA KIDS GET FIT initiative encouraging young adults and children in leading a more healthy and active lifestyle. She created the website, www.SAKIDSGETFIT.org as a tool in helping accomplish the aforementioned goal.
She was also instrumental in authoring city legislation that targeted the prostitution problem in certain areas of the District by making it illegal for hotel owners to charge by the hour.
Councilwoman Ramos’s initial committee assignments included Quality of Life and Infrastructure and Growth.
Currently, Councilwoman Ramos is the Chair of the Quality of Life Committee and she
serves on the Audit and Intergovernmental Relation (IGR) Committees. Councilwoman
Ramos is also on the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and she currently serves
on the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) Board of Directors.
In her spare
time, Councilwoman Ramos enjoys playing golf, watching movies, dancing and spending
time with her family.
